An audience of 300 Nashville Health Care Council members heard from top investment experts at the organization’s annual Financing the Deal panel discussion only blocks away from some of the nation’s leading health care industry headquarters.

Applications to participate in the Nashville Health Innovation Exchange must be received by Monday, April 30, 2012 and must demonstrate innovations in health care delivery, enabled by health information technology (IT). Applications will be reviewed by a panel of evaluators representing key leaders in health care and health information technology within the state of Tennessee convened by the Council and BPC. Successful applicants will present their innovation at the Nashville Health Innovation Exchange on Tuesday, June 19.

Demand for elective procedures, slowed by the recession and persistently high unemployment, continues to drag along with U.S. job growth, my colleague Jaimy Lee reports this week. Surgeries to repair worn hips and knees have slumped in recent years as patients delay medical care to avoid the expense or time off from work. The slowdown contributed to the lackluster growth (compared with historical growth rates) for U.S. health spending overall for 2010 and the prior year.

NASHVILLE – A panel of leading health care research analysts told a packed house of nearly 600 health care executives at the Nashville Health Care Council’s annual panel discussion, Wall Street’s View on Prospects for the Health Care Industry, that there is optimism for Nashville’s leading health care industry in 2012, with a promising outlook for deal-making in the strongly entrepreneurial city.
