Council Events Host Policy Leaders, Finance Experts

Policy Leaders Put Nashville at Top of List

The Council created its Health Care Reform Policy Series in an effort to give members access to the experts crafting key provisions of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, highlighting policy development, implementation and potential outcomes. Speakers from the series included:

Rima Cohen, Counselor to Secretary for Health Policy, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS)
Karen Ignagni, President and CEO, America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP)
Marilyn Tavenner, Principal Deputy Administrator and Chief Operating Officer, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS)
Government and industry association executives Charles N. Kahn, III, president and CEO, Federation of American Hospitals (FAH); Gary Karr, executive vice president, AdvaMed; Brent Del Monte, vice president, Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO); Steve Lieberman, deputy director, National Governors Association (NGA); and moderator Fawn Lopez, vice president-publisher at Modern Healthcare and Modern Physician.

Council members also had unique opportunities to meet with several policy leaders from Washington, D.C., in small group settings and discuss the latest developments related to health care reform. Policy leaders included:

Financial Experts Highlight Nashville as Center for Growth

Two signature Council programs with Wall Street analysts and investment experts shared optimism for expected growth in the health care arena after a time period of stagnant markets.

Panel members at annual Council events Wall Street’s View on Prospects for the Health Care Industry and Financing the Deal expressed optimism in Nashville’s leading health care industry for 2011. Among their predictions was that 2011 would shape up to be a robust year of growth and investment for Nashville’s health care industry was positive, with strong emphasis on acquisitions and innovation.
