Leadership Health Care: The Next Generation of Health Care Leaders

The Council’s Leadership Health Care (LHC) initiative fosters the next generation of industry leadership by creating educational and networking opportunities. Join LHC today.

The program experienced record membership growth in 2010 and 2011, reaching nearly 600 individual members from within 250 companies. Members enjoyed opportunities for continued development of health care industry knowledge through educational programming and networking events with other emerging professionals.

The Council and LHC boards also collaborated on an annual mentoring program for future health care industry leaders to receive guidance and professional development with established leaders.

I am both proud and honored to have the opportunity to engage with and support the next generation of health care leaders in Nashville. Leadership Health Care is not only an extension of the talent available to us here in Nashville, but a driving force to ensure we continue to capitalize on our best assets.

Dee Anna Smith, CEO, Sarah Cannon Research Institute

LHC hosted nearly 1,500 attendees cumulatively at 13 events over the past year:

  • Annual LHC Delegation to Washington, D.C., hosted 100 delegates for briefings with top Administration officials, policymakers and influencers.
  • Roundtable sessions gave LHC members insights from Vanderbilt University Medical Center Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs Jeffrey Balser, M.D., Ph.D.TennCare Director Darin Gordon and BreatheAmerica CEO Joe Hutts.
  • A discussion led by Retired Chairman & CEO Jack O. Bovender, Jr. with Council and LHC boards on the importance of mentoring.
  • A panel featuring women health care industry leaders on health care reform.
  • A discussion on social entrepreneurism highlighted unique nonprofit/private innovations in health care.
  • Industry tours visited the Matthew Walker Comprehensive Health Center and the Comprehensive Care Center.

The most valuable part of the delegations is the access to the different perspectives provided by the various speakers on the agenda. Hearing each of these diverse positions gives us insight into how to participate meaningfully in the policy and financial landscape.
