Broader Alliances Impact Health & Well Being
In support of efforts that work to improve the health and well-being of Nashville residents, the Council is a lead sponsor of the three-year Nashville Public Television documentary series Children’s Health Crisis, which was honored this year with two Midsouth Regional Emmy® Awards. The series has focused on diverse issues such as infant mortality, childhood obesity, prevention and mental health.
At the Council’s invitation, U.S. Surgeon General Regina Benjamin visited Nashville in November 2010 to draw attention to children’s health in Tennessee and raise the profile of the NPT series at the time of the "Obesity" episode premier. During the visit, Dr. Benjamin visited Lockeland Elementary Design Center to hold a news conference and participate in a light workout session with students.
The Council also actively supports Mayor Karl Dean’s citywide initiative NashVitality as part of the Communities Putting Prevention to Work (CPPW) grant. The Council serves as member of the CPPW Leadership Committee, which provides strategic direction for implementation of the grant.
Nashville's becoming an active city, and that takes leadership. Mayor, your leadership shows.
