Economic Development Outreach and International Trade Missions
The Council works across the U.S. and internationally to broaden the city's reputation as a health care industry hub, as well as offer opportunities for members to expand their own networks by connecting these Nashville health care executives with high-ranking government and business leaders.
In November 2010, nearly 30 Nashville health care industry executives participated in the Council and Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce’s International Health Care Trade Mission to Santiago, Chile, and Buenos Aires, Argentina led by Retired HCA Chairman and CEO Jack O. Bovender, Jr. Delegates met with government and business leaders to learn about their health care systems, share best practices and explore opportunities for continued education and business development.
This ninth Council–Chamber mission built on the successes of previous trips that have collectively visited 17 cities and 14 countries, and hosted more than 200 health care leaders who represented 75 companies. Learn more about international Council programs.
The Council also hosted international visitors to Nashville, including a U.S. Department of State international media delegation, and envoys from Belgium, Denmark, Northern Ireland, Poland, Scotland and Sweden. Additional partnerships with the Chamber included economic development trips to New York City, San Francisco and Toronto to expand awareness of Nashville’s reputation as the health care industry capital.
The Trade Mission to South America was an outstanding experience. We learned a great deal, not only about Chile’s and Argentina’s health care systems, but about their economic and financial landscapes, as well. It was clear that both are interested in public–private partnerships with U.S. businesses and in attracting foreign investments, especially in health care.
