Council Partnerships Work to Grow Health Care Industry

HIT Workforce Development

The Nashville community is rich with organizations working together to improve the health care industry and business climate in Middle Tennessee. One such collaboration from the past year is positioning the city to emerge as a leader in health care information technology (HIT).

To capitalize on Nashville’s potential to be an HIT hub, the Council and the Nashville Technology Council hosted the Health Care IT Workforce Solutions Forum, which brought more than 200 attendees and leading health care executives together to discuss the increasingly important role that HIT professionals play and strategies to grow such talent.

As a result of that event, the Council, the Technology Council and the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce formed an HIT Working Group to collaborate with several Nashville-based health care companies and educational institutions to create solutions for developing local talent to fill increasingly available HIT jobs. Since the initial forum in 2010, meetings have convened more than 100 key stakeholders who are working together to determine short- and long-term goals to deepen Nashville’s HIT talent pool. Access to Capital

The Council also partnered with the Nashville Capital Network to host Innovative Approaches to Health Care Venture Capital. The discussion focused on best practices for entrepreneurs and early-stage investors. Panel members pointed to good news on the investment front with new and enhanced corporate and government programs offering access to capital.
