Council Highlights
15th Anniversary Celebration
The Council commemorated its 15th anniversary in 2010 with a celebration of the innovation and growth of Nashville’s vibrant health care industry, welcoming 500 members and special guests to a panel discussion and reception at the Country Music Hall of Fame.
Longtime Council leader and former board chairman Ken Melkus, senior advisor at Welsh, Carson, Anderson & Stowe, moderated the Legendary Leadership panel discussion that included nationally recognized health care executives Dr. Thomas F. Frist, Jr., co-founder and chairman emeritus, HCA; Joel Gordon, principal, The Gordon Group; Charles N. Martin, Jr., chairman and CEO, Vanguard Health Systems; and Clayton McWhorter, chairman, Clayton Associates.
Record Numbers
The Council set records in the areas of member recruitment and retention, and the number of events and guests hosted.
- Corporate members: 215
- New member companies: 40
- Events: 37
- Attendance: 5,000
New Website Debut
In 2010, the Council launched a new website to better serve members, prospective members and partner organizations. The new website offers a user-friendly event calendar and online registration, enhanced member news, and more videos and photos from events, among other features.
The website won a Parthenon Award of Merit from the Nashville Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America and an Achievement in Marketing Award from the Nashville American Marketing Association. The awards lauded the outstanding results of the website launch and the 2009-2010 Annual Report, and also recognized the Council’s online video highlighting the Nashville health care industry.
Mapping out a Plan
In early 2011, more than 40 Council board members and partners gathered to discuss priorities for the organization over the next three years.
Four priorities were identified as central to the mission of the Council:
- Serve as a forum and conduit for industry executives seeking information and solutions within the evolving health care environment.
- Expand the impact of Nashville’s health care industry through economic development and innovation.
- Cultivate the next generation of health care leaders through Leadership Health Care.
- Grow, retain and diversify Council membership and advance the Council’s reputation as a world-class resource.
Fifteen years ago, we realized it would be a great thing to create a council that could represent not only large hospital systems but smaller companies to provide an opportunity to network. The strength of the Health Care Council is networking and being able to share with each other. It’s become a big family.
